I was in the process of writing a post about the Indiana Civil Liberties Union's mission statement. I was going to say it could be better if they included the Declaration of Independence, but then decided I better check to see if the three fundamental rights were included within any amendments. Amendment 13 mentions them, but it also produced a nice "Hmm" when I read the line, "...nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws", in Section 1.
"Equal protection of the laws".
That phrase makes me wonder about all of those laws that we have that really don't protect anyone's rights, and whether they would even be considered constitutional.
