Google has a section on server choice up in their Talk Q&A section. It talks about how IM and VoIP is not federated like email and the phone network. They make mention of their talks with Earthlink and Sipphone, but not a thing about the rest of the Jabber network. They do have an interesting quote, "We look forward to federating with any service provider who shares our belief in enabling user choice and open communications", and they provide a group on interoperability and an email if you want to join their federation.
I suggest we all send an email to the federation address saying something like, "Hi, I run a Jabber server and I would like to join the Google Talk federation. What do I need to do to join?" or something like that. Maybe they'll get the point after a few dozen emails that they need to do something.

(Not so standard) Response from Google
"Hello [MyNameHere],
Thanks for your interest in federating with the Google Talk service. While this is not something that is enabled today with our beta service, we hope to enable it shortly.
When we have more information to share, it will be posted to http://www.google.com/talk/developer.html.
I'll also follow up again on this mail with details when we have them.
Regards,
The Google Talk Team"
I think it's a good idea to send those requests, as we have progressed in a couple of days from "We look forward to federating with any service provider who shares our belief in enabling user choice and open communications" to "we hope to enable it shortly".
Regards.
