I reached a conclusion. Congress is at fault for the creeping totalitarianism with much assistance to Bush for never vetoing a bill. The facet of fascism has been added my Bush's military adventures, and the gradual creation of a police state. Follow this up with out any corrections with Kerry, and I think American Totalitarianism will have come full circle because Kerry will have your life through conscription of some sort along with your government backed pay...welfare check.
What made me reach this conclusion? Past readings, Privacy threats hide in security bill by Declan McCullagh, and ReasonOnline's John Kerry’s Dark Record on Civil Liberties.
Quoting from Declan McCullagh's article we can read about the police state being codified:
One section anticipates storing the "lifetime travel history of each foreign national or United States citizen" into a database for the convenience of government officials. It mentions passports, but there's nothing that would preclude recording the details of trips that Americans take inside the United States.
Continuing
McCain envisions erecting physical checkpoints, dubbed "screening points," near subways, airports, bus stations, train stations, federal buildings, telephone companies, Internet hubs and any other "critical infrastructure" facility deemed vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Secretary Tom Ridge would appear to be authorized to issue new federal IDs--with biometric identifiers--that Americans could be required to show at checkpoints.
And from ReasonOnline's article about John Kerry we read about his record on civil liberties. Kerry was a proponent of key escrow in which the government had a third key to all legal forms of encryption. He also wanted to export the US's property forfeiture laws internationally. These were first put in place for the War on Drugs so the government could take one's property, and the owner would have to prove that it wasn't involved in a drug crime. Now some quotes:
Kerry then expressed his belief that bank customers are entitled to essentially zero privacy. "The technology is already available to monitor all electronic money transfers," he wrote (emphasis added). "We need the will to make sure it is put in place."
Kerry then pushed for measures to do just that into the PATRIOT Act's Title III. That title was then used in Operation G-String to bust a strip club owner, something that had nothing to do with terrorism.
Just look at John Kerry's A Call To Service for his views on conscription and the welfare state. Not to mention that if Kerry is elected with a Democrat controlled Congress, welfare and socialism will replace laws like the mentioned above and the PATRIOT Act. That only brings on the other side of totalitarianism.
So we march on into the future led by a fearless leaders leading us into darkness while being pursued by fearless attackers that only causes are leaders to march faster.

I can't wait
Till this election is over. Then I can get back to talking and debating on the issues. I can't do that right now because I believe (as I know you do not) that there is this issue of nat'l security that supercedes all other issues and that I *must* vote for Bush as I firmly think he will do a better job in this area.
However! I don't like everything Bush has done. While I do not go so far as you have above, I certainly agree that Bush has contributed to the "feature-creep" of the government, to mix metaphors, and that Kerry would be bad for civil liberties and privacy.
So maybe in 5 days (or it's looking like 15 :( ), we can see where we really stand.
